Rock Springs Run is one of Central Florida's most enchanting waterways, a crystal-clear, spring-fed river that winds through the wild heart of Kelly Park and Wekiwa Springs State Park. The water here is so transparent it earns its nickname, the Emerald Cut, with sunlight filtering through overhanging cypress and oak canopies to paint the surface in shifting shades of green and gold. Paddling Rock Springs Run feels like slipping into a hidden Florida that existed long before theme parks and highways, a slow-moving ribbon of jungle where turtles bask on fallen logs and wading birds stalk the shallows.
The kayak adventure traces the most photogenic stretch of Rock Springs Run, gliding past sandy banks, palm-lined bends, and pockets where the spring water bubbles up cold and clear from beneath your boat. Along the way, you can expect close encounters with native wildlife, herons lifting off from the cypress knees, otters slipping between roots, and the occasional alligator sunning on the shoreline. The pace is unhurried, giving you time to drift, dip your hand in the famously cool water, and listen to the chorus of frogs, cicadas, and birdsong that fills the air. Compared to busier Florida waterways, Rock Springs Run feels intimate and untamed, more wilderness preserve than tourist route.
This experience is perfect for couples chasing a romantic outdoor escape, families with kids old enough to handle a paddle, photographers, and anyone who would rather spend a Florida afternoon in the shade of a living forest than in line for a ride. Beginners are welcome, since the current is gentle and the route is guided, and seasoned paddlers will appreciate the chance to see Rock Springs Run from the water rather than the crowded swimming areas upstream. By the time you beach your kayak at the end, you will understand why locals quietly guard this place as one of the most beautiful paddles in the state.
This kayaking outfit consistently delivers memorable nature experiences thanks to exceptional guides who clearly love what they do. Nigel, Owen, Kevin, Dani, and Kim all get glowing mentions for being knowledgeable, friendly, and genuinely engaging. People rave about the clear kayak tours and nighttime paddles, with plenty of wildlife sightings including gators, turtles, and various birds. The crystal-clear waters and peaceful, winding rivers create that perfect escape from typical theme park crowds. The natural setting itself is stunning, especially if you visit early in the day when you'll have the water mostly to yourself. Wildlife tends to be more visible on certain forks of the river, and guides know exactly where to take you for the best experience. A couple of service issues pop up, including one person reporting problems bringing their service dog despite website policies, and occasional front desk attitude. These seem isolated rather than widespread, but worth noting if you have specific accessibility needs to confirm ahead of time.
Nigel delivers a quality experience with his vast knowledge of Florida springs, nature and wildlife. The paddling was easy for all(ages 11-48). Stopped to swim, jump off trees and saw deer, birds, fish, turtles and even a couple gators! Highly recommend the guided tour for anyone that enjoys nature and its beauty!
