Dress for the weather and wear comfortable shoes. Bring layers (shirt, fleece or down coat, and a rain coat) and avoid cotton because it won’t dry once wet. You can usually hike in sneakers, though hiking shoes are recommended.

Bring your own water. Also bring a hat and sunglasses, plus sunscreen and bug spray.

No. Use a backpack and trekking poles if you need them—these are provided.

Josh leads most of these hiking adventures, and he clearly knows his stuff. Travelers rave about his expertise in geology, botany, and local wildlife—apparently those eagle eyes regularly spot bears, mountain goats, and other Cascade creatures. The company specializes in full-day guided hikes to Mt. Rainier and the North Cascades, with door-to-door transportation from Seattle that eliminates the hassle of car rentals. Guides like Sophia, Sonya, Teresa, and Elena also get glowing mentions for their knowledge and easygoing attitudes. The pacing seems perfectly calibrated for different fitness levels, with multiple hikers over 60 mentioning they never felt overwhelmed. Guides adapt to your speed, stop for photos whenever you want, and handle all the logistics so you can focus on the experience. The personal touches stand out too—shared photo albums after the hike, fresh huckleberries to sample on the trail, and gear like hiking poles if you forget yours. Solo travelers particularly appreciate the friendly, welcoming vibe that makes the day feel like hiking with a knowledgeable friend rather than a formal tour.

Sophia with Adventures in Seattle was absolutely incredible. We signed up for the winter snowshoeing trip. From the very beginning, she was proactive in communicating with us when the weather forecast suggested snowshoeing might not be possible. Instead of letting that derail our plans, she was flexible, gracious, and helped us pivot so we could still spend the day adventuring in the beautiful Pacific Northwest. We’re so thankful we didn’t cancel (which we were offered the opportunity to for a full refund). Not only did we luck out with a fantastic guide, but we also had picture-perfect weather — thank you, Mother Nature and Sophia! We hiked to Panorama Point at Paradise in Mount Rainier National Park, and the views were truly breathtaking. We were able to both hike and snowshoe, and the scenery was seriously incredible. Sophia was friendly, knowledgeable, and a joy to spend the day with. The 2.5-hour drive flew by thanks to great conversation, and she was extremely well-prepared with gear for all conditions. She gave clear, thoughtful instructions on how to use everything, which made the experience feel easy and safe. One thing we especially appreciated was that Sophia took photos and videos of us throughout the day. As a couple who travels often, this meant so much — we usually end up with mostly solo pictures, so having those shared memories captured was priceless. This experience was not only the highlight of our Seattle trip, but it’s easily in the running for one of our favorite travel experiences ever. If you’re even thinking about booking with Sophia — do it. You’ll get an unforgettable adventure with someone who genuinely cares. As a final testament to her thoughtfulness, when we accidentally left some items in her car, she immediately offered to have them shipped to us. Sophia is truly the best, and we can’t recommend her and Adventures in Seattle highly enough.
