Bird Valley Trailhead (Konikson Road)
Chugach State Park rises just beyond the edge of Anchorage, a half-million-acre expanse of jagged peaks, alpine meadows, and glacier-fed streams that ranks among the largest state parks in the United States. This private three-hour ATV tour drops you into the heart of Chugach State Park, trading paved roads for backcountry trails that wind through spruce forests and open onto sweeping views of the Chugach Mountains. With only your group on the trail and an experienced guide leading the way, the park feels less like a destination and more like a personal frontier, raw, quiet, and impossibly vast.
The ride through Chugach State Park is built around the landscape itself. You will rumble across creek crossings, navigate rugged trails carved through the wilderness, and pause at scenic overlooks where the air smells of cold stone and evergreen. Your guide shares stories about the terrain, the wildlife that roams these valleys, moose, bears, eagles, Dall sheep on distant ridges, and the geological forces that shaped the Chugach range. Unlike a roadside pullout or a crowded viewpoint, every stop in Chugach State Park feels earned, with panoramas of layered ridgelines and braided rivers stretching as far as the eye can see. The pace is yours, with time to take photos, breathe in the mountain air, and feel the scale of Alaska settle in.
This tour is perfect for adventurous couples, families with older kids, and travelers who want a true taste of Alaska beyond the city limits. First-time ATV riders are welcome, and the private format means the guide can tailor the route to your comfort level. If you crave fresh air, big country, and a story you will be telling long after the trip ends, a private ATV adventure through Chugach State Park delivers exactly that.
