Kanaha Beach Park on Alaho Street, Kahului.
Kanaha Beach Park sits along Maui's north shore just minutes from Kahului Airport, and it is widely regarded as one of the best places on the planet to learn windsurfing. The combination of steady trade winds, a shallow sandy-bottomed lagoon, and a gentle outer reef that knocks down the bigger swells creates a natural classroom on the water. While advanced sailors push out beyond the reef to chase waves, the inside section of Kanaha Beach Park stays manageable and forgiving, which is exactly what you want when you are clipping into a board for the very first time.
This private beginner windsurfing lesson takes full advantage of those conditions. After meeting your instructor at Kanaha Beach Park, you will start on land learning how to read the wind, balance on the board, and uphaul the sail before walking down to the water to put it all into practice. The reliable afternoon breeze fills the sail without overwhelming you, and the warm, waist-deep water means a fall is just a quick reset rather than a setback. From the lagoon you can look out toward the West Maui Mountains on one side and the famous Ho'okipa coastline stretching east, with colorful sails skimming across the bay around you.
This experience is ideal for first-timers, curious travelers, and active families who want to try a true Hawaiian water sport in a safe, scenic setting. Because the lesson is private, the pace is set entirely by you, which makes Kanaha Beach Park equally welcoming for nervous beginners and quick learners eager to start tacking on their own. If you have ever watched windsurfers gliding across Maui's blue water and wondered what it feels like, a lesson at Kanaha Beach Park is the most rewarding way to find out.
Easy and friendly service when booking. My 17 yr old son and his friend took a windsurf lesson. Great spot where the lesson was at. The instructor was professional and shared his love for the sport with the youngsters.
