    More about Yellowstone National Park

Yellowstone National Park sits just beyond the rafts as they push off from Gardiner, Montana, and the river you ride was carved by the same wild forces that shaped the park itself. The Yellowstone River is the longest free-flowing river in the lower 48, and it spills directly out of Yellowstone National Park before charging through the rugged Yankee Jim Canyon. This full-day rafting trip pairs the thrill of whitewater with the dramatic backdrop of the country surrounding Yellowstone National Park, giving you a perspective on the landscape that very few visitors ever see from inside the park itself.

The day on the water unfolds with a mix of splashy rapids and calmer stretches where the canyon walls tower overhead and the wildlife of greater Yellowstone National Park comes into view. Bald eagles ride thermals above the cliffs, bighorn sheep pick their way across rocky ledges, and deer often appear along the willow-lined banks. Between rapids like Boxcar and Big Rock, your guide shares stories about the geology, history, and ecology of the Yellowstone region, connecting the river you are floating to the wider wilderness of Yellowstone National Park just upstream. A riverside lunch breaks up the day, with cold water, sunshine, and the sound of the Yellowstone moving past your feet.

This trip is ideal for families, couples, and groups of friends who want to balance their sightseeing in Yellowstone National Park with a real outdoor adventure. It suits first-time rafters who want a memorable splash as well as seasoned paddlers looking for a scenic full day on classic Montana water. If you are basing yourself in Gardiner at the north entrance of Yellowstone National Park, this full-day Yellowstone River float is a natural way to add wild rapids, wildlife, and canyon scenery to your park itinerary.

    Review summary

    4.9
    Excellent
    1.5K reviews•Google Maps

With a near-perfect rating that actually holds up in the details, this outfitter delivers consistently stellar adventures right by Yellowstone. The guides clearly make the experience—names like Josie, Jordan, Ingram, Addie, Emily, and the zipline crew (Gecko, Slayer, Mia, Gray) come up repeatedly for being knowledgeable, safety-focused, and genuinely fun. People rave about how comfortable they felt, even first-timers and those conquering fear of heights. The staff shares local wildlife facts, history along the river, and even restaurant recommendations that enhance the whole trip. The rafting trips vary by season and water levels, so manage expectations accordingly. Some visitors found it more of a scenic float than an adrenaline rush, though the more challenging routes deliver consistent Class 2 and 3 rapids. One reviewer noted front desk service felt less warm on a return visit after a weather cancellation, but that's a minor blip in an otherwise glowing pattern. The professional photos are apparently worth getting. Both activities work great for families, first-timers, and thrill-seekers alike, with excellent safety protocols throughout.

We Zipped, We Laughed! Our group of three (two thrill-seeking adults and one pint-sized adventurer) had an absolute blast ziplining with Whitewater in Montana! The experience was unforgettable—kind of like flying, but with gravity still keeping one hand on your shirt collar. Major kudos to our guides, Sailor and Gray—these two were not only super knowledgeable (did you know ziplining burns approximately zero calories but 100% of your stress?), but they also kept us entertained with cool facts and great energy. They made us feel safe and stoked from start to finish. Honestly, if ziplining had a Hall of Fame, they’d be in it. Now, we have to mention our first scheduled tour was cancelled due to lightning. Not ideal, but hey—Mother Nature's got jokes too. ("You wanted an electric thrill? Here's a literal one.") Safety first, and we totally get it. On our return visit, though, the front desk vibe had cooled a bit. The first time around, the staff were friendly and welcoming. The second time? Let’s just say they weren’t quite channeling the same “Montana nice.” Maybe they missed their morning coffee or got caught in a lightning mood hangover. Either way, a smile goes a long way, y’all! Still, the adventure itself totally delivered. Ziplining through Montana’s stunning scenery? 10/10 would recommend—even our kid couldn’t stop grinning, and that’s saying something in the age of WiFi.
