Ride to Haleakala’s summit and stroll cloud forest trails
approximately 5 hours
Snacks, water, sunscreen
Travel from sea level to Haleakala Crater and explore summit viewpoints with short guided walks. Choose a morning or sunset departure and learn about local plants, birds, and invasive species along the way.
Bring 2–3 warm layers; it can be cold and windy at the summit. Trails include a 0.5-mile walk (about 30 minutes) and a 0.4-mile round-trip walk (about 20 minutes).
Full refund with 48 hours notice of cancellation. Full refund if the operator cancels due to weather or other unforeseen circumstances. No-shows will be charged the full price.
Wear pants and a comfortable top with socks and walking shoes or sneakers. Bring 2–3 layers (long sleeve, sweatshirt, and/or jacket) since it can be warm at the coast and cold at the summit; a hoodie, scarf, or beanie can help on windy days.
Expect much colder conditions at the top than at the coast. The summit is often in the 40s and can feel colder on windy days.
You get fresh banana bread and pineapple. A cooler with bottled water and ice is included, and you can bring a refillable bottle (such as a Hydro Flask) for refills from a jug.

The guides here bring serious local expertise and personality to Road to Hana tours. Gus, Yvonne, and Kea get consistently glowing praise for their deep knowledge of Maui's history, culture, and hidden gems. They drive the challenging roads expertly (a real relief on those narrow switchbacks), stock the vehicles with snacks and water, and genuinely engage with guests rather than just pointing out attractions. Reviewers love that guides join activities like waterfall swims and rock jumping, help capture great photos, and introduce travelers to local animal friends and roadside fruit stands along the way. The private tours in convertible Broncos seem particularly popular, giving families and couples flexibility to customize their itinerary. Guides listen to what guests want to see and add their own recommendations based on years of experience. Multiple reviewers mention guides who've done the route over 1,000 times, which shows in their ability to time stops perfectly and avoid crowds. Jasmine in the office also gets kudos for being accommodating with scheduling and weather adjustments. Families appreciate how well the guides connect with kids of all ages, answering endless questions with patience and enthusiasm that keeps everyone engaged throughout these long, full-day adventures.
The Bronco felt like a rollercoaster going thru all the curves. Our driver was an Ace driver. She was fun and knowledgeable. She even went on the waterfall jump with my kids!
